The 2008 series has got off to a fantastic start with no fewer than 86 registered series runners contending the super-fast 32 miles of the Wuthering Hike. This year saw a return to the old start/finish in Haworth Centre adding a mile or more to the course length. Coupled with a muddier course and a bit of headwind this meant that it was a bit tougher out there. There were some fine runs in all categories though. Lizzy Hawker, GB team member and former world 100km champion, came in 8th overall, last years runner-up Matt Giles bettered last years winner Adam Breaks over the last few miles to record the overall win, Adrian Dixon scored an early lead in the 60 mens category ahead of former series winner Yiannis Tridimas and Janet Hill gained an early lead in the F50 ladies category. It was also great to see some new faces and some people tackling their first "ultra" - beyond the marathon distance of 26 miles. I hope the rain after midday did not discourage you and that you will be hooked to runfurther and...step beyond. The Manx Mountain Marathon has just been completed on the Isle of Man, after a rocky start when the ferries were cancelled due to adverse weather, most racers got to the island with some major re-planning to their weekend. well done all who made it. The wather luckily held off and the racers were just subjected to very high winds, fortunately pushing them most of the way after the half way mark. The course was icy to start with but returned to normal again after half way. Wendy Dodds did a superb run to become first lady home, beating all the young runners out there. She is running extremely well this year. paul thompson from Clayton le Moors won the mens race in an impressive 4 hours and 42 minutes. The result of the Wuthering are up on the website and Manx Mountain Marathon results will be on the league table soon. When results come in please take time to check that you are on the results sheet. Don't worry if you have friends who still want to register we will add new series runners as they register. Check your name is correct and your team name if you are in one and your category please, if any are wrong please email us and we will change it for you. |

Teams
Its good to see that competition for the team title is hotting up with
Team Krypton/Kryptonettes, in particlar, making the effort with special
running vests. If you are in a team or want to form a team, please make
sure your registration details on the site are correct. It doesn't
matter if you don't get your team name on the entry for every race -
it's what is registered on www.runfurther.com
that counts. We are going toput a section on the website for teams to
write about their races and experiences so we can all see how they are
racing and enjoying running as a team. This will be a "Team Blog" like
team"Run Like a Girl" did last year. If you are a team member and wold
like to do this please email through "contact us" on the website and we will put one of your team members in charge of this with access to that part of the website.
Please email us with any other feed back so we can improve the website and get you all reading more info on it.
Soon - we will be updating the calender to show all ultra races we can find but in the mean time see this page or this one
for a few to look at! Also the forum will be up and running and spam
free very shortly (just having a few problems getting it going!)
If you would like to send in an article for us to publish or a race
report from one of the sweries or any others you have done please email
through the "contact us"
page on the website and we will send you info on how to do this. You
will need to send the text and any pictures seperately. Text in word
with NO formatting and pictures no bigger than 600 x 600 pixels.
