The 2010 Champs so far...
Record numbers at Osmotherley Phoenix and Lakeland 100/50 and Long Tour of Bradwell. Runfurther runners really are running further this year - we have had record entries in all our races so far this year.
Osmotherley Phoenix saw top runners competing for the record - Adam Perry won for the mens and Nicky Spinks won the ladies title. Read Martin Beales (3rd) race report HERE and Jayne Anguilley's report HERE (Jayne is one of two new members of Team Runfurther - read all about their exploits further down the newsletter). To see loads of photos taken by Mark Hartell click HERE
Montane Lakeland 100 and 50 again saw record numbers of entries, now in its 3rd year this race is set to become one of the "big" UK ultras to rival some of the European races so many of us have been travelling to over the last few years. Again we had some fantastic battles at the top end of this race and here's a report from Britta Sendlhofer who was fist lady in the 100 and wrote a great report HERE (it includes the battle of the injured leg over the last 10 miles). Hannah Moore-Barton (Team Run like a Girl) who came in as 3rd female home in the 100, a position she really didn't expect - it's a great read and she did it all for charity - read her report HERE (Hannah and fellow runner Nigel were First Mixed Pair) and Andy Mouncey's report HERE (Second male) See loads of photos HERE and some more HERE. Winners were Stuart Mills (read his report HERE) and Britta in the 100 and Sarah Rowell and Andrew James in the 50.
The Long Tour of Bradwell - saw the sun come out for the second half of the race with more runners than last year entered and finishing this toughy (that did seem to stretch beyond the "short" ultra criteria - so sorry for this we will adjust for next year!!!) See Nick Hams report HERE and a whole load of photos HERE or HERE. Did anyone know that Nicky Spinks came 4th in Borrowdale on the Saturday and then came first lady in the Long Tour of Bradwell - bonkers and very fit - well done Nicky....
The one next is the roughty tuffty (never seen such big tussocks as the ones half way through this supperb event!) Pumlumon Challenge - enter HERE
And there is alot of us going to make a weekend of it, as it is a saturday race, why not join Runfurther on this campsite HERE for the saturday night
See the Leader Board HERE - please check you are on it if you have raced so far, if you have not raced yet you will get on once you complete your first Champs event.

Supporting the Championships
Ian Barnes who most of us know from Lakesrunner but as some of us remember - he helped start Runfurther and the Ultra-Running Championships back in 2006 with Mark Hartell, they hatched this plan and now we have the well established UK Ultra-running Champs supported by all you runners. Ian soon moved on to become the Manager of Lakerunner and continued his support of the Champs by becoming our Retail Partner - BUT as of the end of July he moved on from Lakes Runner to pursue a career in Physics teaching - gulp - we wish Ian all the luck in the world on that one... AND...
How about a big vote of thanks for his commitment to Runfurther and the UK Ultra Running Champs from its very beginning. No doubt he will be greatly missed as the oracle and purveyor of great running gear at Lakes Runner, but hopefully we will be seeing him still taking part and supporting Runfurther and the UK Ultra-running Champs. In fact whilst supporting a race a few weekends ago he was overheard saying 'I might just smash the Lakeland 100 next year, with a field like this I think I have a pretty good chance' - now thats a red rag and sounds like he may have been taking lessons from Joss. Come on Ian and good luck from the Runfurther team - Si, Mark and Karen.
See Lakesrunners "deals " on their home page - there is a new deal of the week every week - so get your bargains from our retail partner - Lakesrunner by clicking HERE then going to the "Home" page
(see here for details of how you spending money on Lakesrunner helps the champs and runfurther run - as we don't get paid for this - it is all for fun to go further!) |
