Run Like a Girl

We did it - we got round in daylight - well we did a bit more than that we did it in 11 hours 46 mins.

BUT had an hours worth of navigational error !!! We did what we never said we would do - we ignored our compass - bit of a school girl error in the mist and clag - but a hour later we were back on track and found our way to Crowden Youth Hostel with all the checkpoints staff giggling a bit cos we'd taken so long on that section, but we struggled on and started passing people - never thought we'd do that quite so much but I suppose by then we were with all the walkers not the runners!

Sun came out after Bleaklow, where we went up the "Grough" - learn't how to spell it now!!! I still think "gruff" is better! Anyway we overtook quite a few with that bit of naving, then found our way to Snake Pass and some sun at last, we were over heating by the time we got to Edale, and I'd not eaten or drunk enough over the last hour or so and felt awfull, so gulped down plenty of grub from the very friendly checkpoint people and then felt even worse for the next 10 mins till it kicked in, then stormed up the next hill much to the surprise of Alex and Catherine. The next section was very roady and that soon slowed me up, think I have a mental block when it comes to running on roads, especially in the heat of the day, well anyway I slowed down yet again to my plod. We got into Chapel to find a friend had cycled there and was very supportive, waving us on and chatting and generally cheering us up whilst we attended to our blisters and shoved more food down our necks.

Next was up to White Hall Adventure Centre and we stormed up the hill again and back down the other side to the Goyt Valley with only one more check point to go - we were going to make it and we were going to do it in daylight - how happy were we, we stormed again up the hill to Cat and Fiddle and new then we could do it in under 12 hours - yippeee!!!

Last road section was hard work and was getting cold by then into a head wind but we then found more friends lining the route and taking photos, yippeee!!! We did it and we came 3rd Girls team and won the Novice Trophy. So after spending most of the race saying I'm giving up running forever I feel better now and will continue for a few more months! Apparently one day i will love it and it won't hurt so much and I'll get faster than a plodder!
