62 miles of bad weather, good weather, tussocks, bogs, peat bogs, tripping over, 3m viz at night, pea soup fog and rain BUT I loved it! The rest of Team Run Like a Girl thought I was mad cos I was so happy and upbeat through the whole experience. I think it just suits me this event because I can start off slow and keep that plod up for the whole time. If the weather hadn’t closed in overnight we would have finished in well under 20 hours but the viz was so bad we moved at a snails pace over the last hill and came in at dawn in just over 20 hours but still running! And my legs feel fine this year, I can walk up and down stairs, stretch and even the thought of running doesn’t make me want to throw up (last year it was a different storey!). I am so happy with our run I am still full of adrenalin and it finished 2 days ago! I didn’t even mind the tussocks and peat bog, even if they did trip me up more times than I can remember. I even curbed my swearing at them!! Poor Catherine had a really bad foot from about mile 20 and she didn’t even swear. Mind you I have never heard the other two so little, must have been the damp cold conditions or me talking too much or being too happy!!! We finished just behind the two girls that were joint 3rd female!! Wow – we are improving!!This gives me great confidence for TMB and the World Adventure racing Champs I am competing in next week. This ought to test my endurance and sleep deprivation as it is a week long continuous race, so we are not going to be sleeping much. What an ace year I am having!
Next running race for me is a long way off, probably Osmotherly Phoenix, but will be helping out at the LAMM and collecting in checkpoints after the event. All my running for the next month will be out the back door over the Peak District. Catherine is hoping her foot is better for Old County Tops next week and Alex will be joining me on my runs and working our way up for a recce of TMB in the summer.
