11) Worst Nightmare
Being put in an ambulance at the end of the Singapore Marathon in 2003 in the middle of the 7 Marathons in 7 days on 7 continents challenge. With Dr Mike Stroud. (One hour later I was released as OK to carry on)
12) Running Aspirations
I started Adventure Racing in 1995 and the team leader wanted his team to be able to run a marathon in a certain time. So I started to run 'competitively' aged 50 but no distances shorter than 26 miles since I lacked speed. My favorite UK races are the High Peak Marathon, the LAMM and the KIMM. I did a few Ace Races but hate Mountain Biking. One summer, with Ski Sharp, we won the Male Pairs Ace Race which satisfied my aspirations at any race under Marathon length. In 2004 I came a fairly close 2nd in the North Pole Marathon (Snow Shoes) but only because of cold-weather familiarity not through speed.
13) Favourite piece of kit
My old Vasque trainers
14) Top Tip
When you get to 55 and beyond, you need to run every other day for at least 2 hours and include lots of uphill, or you'll go downhill fast.
15) Soap Box
When you have a heart attack (which sooner or later you probably will) don't let it cramp your style.
