Welcome to the start of the 2010 champs

It’s been quite a winter but hopefully you have been training hard and are looking forward to some great running and racing in the year ahead. We have a great line-up of races to tempt you so get planning and please enter early – the series is growing, events are getting full and we would hate your carefully planned campaign to be thwarted by a full race.

Upcoming Races
 First up is the classic season opener – Wuthering Hike – a fast 31ish mile tour of Bronte country you can run as solos or pairs and will provide a good indication of how solid that winter training base has been.

Just one week later and the runfurther Championships moves to a new event – the Hardmoors 55. Organised by runfurther competitor and Tour de Mont Blanc finisher, Jon Steele, this promises to be a great gallop from Helmsley to Guisborough along the Cleveland Way. Over 80 people are signed up but there is still time to enter – be there for the first running of an event we think is going to become a classic.

Easter weekend sees a welcome return of the Manx Mountain Marathon to the series. Tough, beautiful and very welcoming, runfurther races have enjoyed the Manx since our very first year in 2006. Unfortunately we have not been able to negotiate any specials with the IoM steam packet but everyone who has made the journey raves about the event and GreenLight TV are planning on filming the event – your chance in the limelight!

Supporting the Championships

We are delighted to have a great line-up of supporting sponsors again for 2010. We say a big thank-you to Thorlo, Vasque, OMM , Clif Bar  and Lakerunner for  their continued support of the series and we welcome Elete (Electrolyte add-in) and Running Fitness magazine.

Although times are tough, all our sponsors are committed to supporting the growth of ultra-running at the grass roots level and their product support means that we again have a prize fund of around £10,000 in value. What’s more we like to spread good things around so you don’t have to be setting course records to win great gear – through www.runfurther.com and through spot prizes at events, anyone can win, and at 2 events this year will give a free Clif bar to every entrant.

OK – this is where you can do your bit to keep the series strong. We are pretty excited about this one. Running Fitness magazine are excited about the series and are going to feature our competition. We have 2 team places up for grabs within the runfurther team. One man and one woman will be selected, given all the team kit, have their entries to 4 series races paid for. They will then feature the series and the trials and tribulations of our selected team members throughout the year.
