In June and July I will be attempting a trip called the "British Isles Challenge". It's going to be, I think, the first human-powered journey the length of the UK.
|
THE PLAN
The plan is to kayak from some rocks south of the Scilly Isles to Land's End, run along the south coast path for a couple of days, mountain bike up through Somerset, row across the Bristol Channel, mountain bike up through Wales, run over Snowdon, then road bike through the Peak District and into the Lakes, run up Scafell and swim across Derwent Water, then road bike into Scotland to Fort William. From there a run over Ben Nevis, more kayaking along the Caledonian Canal, and more biking to John O Groat's where Andy Rankin will hopefully join me to row out to the Shetland Islands and around another small rock to finish! It's about 1400 miles in total.
THE PURPOSE
The main purpose of the trip is to try to raise at least £10,000 for three charities - NSPCC, Avert AIDS and Water for Kids. I'm trying to get as many corporate and individual sponsors as possible on board so visit www.britishisleschallenge.co.uk or email me on HERE if you can help! If anyone wants to join in for the runs or any other part of the trip please feel free, exact dates will be arranged soonish. and I'm aiming to do it in 4 weeks.
