Munro Record - Spyke

Read Stephen Pykes (Spyke) record attempt at the Scottish Munroes Record on midsummers weekend 2008.

Report here

The weekend was a fantastic trip with many friends joining together to help Spyke in his attempt.

Spyke said:

Although the attempt on the round was unsuccesful there is much that I can take from the weekend and the build-up that makes me think it was a worthwhile endeavour. For me it has been great to share this weekend and several others this year with friends and like-minded people for some wonderful days out in the hills. I have also been touched by the generosity of people in giving up time to come and support in all sorts of capacities over the weekend. It was great to have you all there whether running alongside me plying me with drinks or being out on various parts of the route to offer encouragement and refreshments.

Thoughts of a re-run need careful consideration, as we have all learned this is an incredibly tough round. So, I think it's worth noting, the record remains with Jonathan Broxap who, in less than perfect weather and almost 20 years to the day on 25-26 June 1988, "... crossed the finish line scored across the A87, 23 hours and 20 minutes, after a truly remarkable display of determined running."

See the video and just see how hard this attempt looks! VIDEO
