As a junior (U18) reached county level in four sports - hockey, lacrosse, cross country (finished 250^th at senior schools cross country), track (800m and was Suffolk schools senior 100m champion)

1982                                ran first marathon

 

1983                                2.39.11 in London marathon

                                       World Student Games gold medal in the marathon

 

1984                                5^th national cross country championships

                                       53.44 for 10 miles

                                       3^rd London marathon in 2.31.28

                                       14^th Olympic Games marathon

 

1985                                2^nd in London marathon in 2.28.06 - then a British record and in the World all time top 10 times

                                       72.05 for 13.1 miles

 

1986                                1^st national 10km cross country championships (long since defunct)

                                       1^st outright in Seven Sisters off-road marathon  (in a time that has only been beaten by a man once)

 

1989 -  96                        World Mountain Running Trophy 5 times including individual silver in 1992, and a number of team medals

 

1992                                15^th overall in 3 Peaks race

 

1994                                Out sprinted for 1^st overall after 33 miles at the end of the Howarth Hobble (after ending up in a washing line!)

 

1995                                British and English fell running champion

 

1996                                British and English fell running champion

                                       Member of the P&B mens team which set a Pennine Way relay record

 

1997                                1^st Burnsall

 

2000                                last serious cross country races

                                       first ladies pair to win the Oxenhope straw race outright

                                       1^st Ben Nevis

 

from 2000                         regular competitor in OMM and LAMM – frequent ladies A class winners, mainy with Wendy Dodds

 

2005                                1^st Fellsman

 

2006                                1^st Fellsman, dnf UTMB

 

2007                                9^th UTMB, ladies A class winners in OMM and LAMM

 

2008                                elite OMM – well half of it!

 

2009                                1^st Haworth Hobble, 1^st Fellsman (in both cases 8^th overall)

 

Since then have focused more on mountain marathons and longer events

 

 

Author of ‘Off Road Running’ and regular contributor to various running magazines

 

Current Chair of UKA Mountain Running Advisory Group in 2009 and chair of selectors

 

 

Also - 3 operations on left hamstring, 2 operations on back, 1 year out with overtraining syndrome/post viral fatigue, 1 stress fracture
