Science in Sport Lightning 12hr

On Sunday 20th March 2011 hundreds of runners will gather before sunrise at Eastnor Castle Deer Park to contest the second annual Science in Sport Lightning 12hr. Competitors will need to call upon every second of their winter training to tackle the challenge that lies in the 12hours ahead.
A testing yet rewarding 10km lap, combining long hill climbs, with technical woodland sections & inevitably some fast descents. All set within the idyllic surroundings of Eastnor Castle Deer Park, deep in the stunning Malvern Hills. Competitors will line up to start at 6am, aiming to complete as many gruelling laps as possible over the next 12hours. With a tough course, darkness to contend with, team tactics & the possibility of changeable conditions, runners will have to be mentally strong as well as having a good pair of legs to come out on top in this endurance trail run.
Format: Teams & pairs must run relay style, with one competitor on the course at a time. A handover area, with drinks station, is situated at the start/finish area. Runners in teams can do their laps in any order, so tactics can play an important part.
The winning team is the team that manages to complete the most laps in the 12hours. No further laps can be started after 6pm, although any laps started before 6pm that are completed will be counted to the team's total lap score.
Solo competitors must, as the name suggests, run on their own for the duration of the event. Solo competitors can leave/rejoin the course at a specified point to take breaks, refuel, etc.
